- Napoleon und Nelson, Wellington und Blücher, Trafalgar und Austerlitz - Personen und Orte, die im europäischen Gedächtnis für die napoleonische Epoche stehen. Wie wurden die Revolutions- und Napoleonischen Kriege in Großbritannien und Irland erinnert? Neben mehr als 500 historischen Romanen bezieht Lars Peters u.a. auch Gedichte und Werke der Geschichtsschreibung in seine Analyse ein. Die Erinnerungen an diese Kriege trugen dazu bei, Engländer, Schotten und Waliser unter dem Dach einer britischen Nation zu vereinen. In Irland hingegen blieb die Deutung der Ereignisse umstritten. Dem Land fehlt bis heute ein konfessionsübergreifender Gründungsmythos. Wer sich künftig mit dem Nachleben der napoleonischen Epoche im englischsprachigen Raum beschäftigt, kommt an diesem Buch nicht vorbei--
