- Die faschistische Bewegung in Italien besaß in ihrer Aufstiegs- und Machtergreifungsphase 1921 bis 1924 einen ausgeprägt regionalen Charakter. Trotz ihres nationalen Anspruchs setzte sich die Gesamtbewegung aus einzelnen, weitgehend in sich geschlossenen "Provinzfaschismen" zusammen, deren politisch-soziale Dynamik sich vorwiegend aus örtlichen Konflikten speiste. Roger Engelmann untersucht den Provinzfaschismus am Beispiel der Marmorregion Carrara. Detailliert beschreibt er die politischen und sozialen Grundlagen, die Bedingungen des rasanten Aufstiegs und den Charakter der Herrschaftsbildung einer lokalen faschistischen Bewegung, die durch ihre extreme Gewalttätigkeit und spektakuläre "militärische" Aktionen schon früh nationale Aufmerksamkeit erregte.--
