- The fonds is organised into three main sections: the first concerns Paolo Falcone's official activities as trade unionist for European Community officials (minutes of meetings of trade unions, internal circulars, propaganda, election programmes, records of discussions with employers' organisations, correspondence with politicians and European trade unionists). The second includes the documentation collected by Falcone when he was assistant secretary and then secretary general of the Socialist Group of the European Parliament (conference proceedings, reports on the Group's activities, newsletters, brochures). The third section includes notes and official documents relating to activities for the protection of human rights promoted by the European Parliament

- Biographical or historical data
- Paolo Falcone was born in Florence on the 19 June 1931. He graduated with a law and political science degree from the University of Genoa. In 1951 he attended the founding meeting of a group of young European federalists of the European Federalist Movement, Genova section . He was very active in liberal youth movements, and participated in the creation and development of the movement for the creation of youth hostels in Italy. In 1956 he joined the Italian Socialist Party (PSI) and was also a founding member of the Luxembourg section of the Italian Socialist Party. For five years he chaired the Federation of trade unions, bringing together delegates from various trade unions of EC officials and intergovernmental organisations. As such, he participated in many important negotiations on collective agreements such as those concerning the reorganization of vocational qualifications, working conditions and treatment of workers. In 1957 he joined the High Authority of the ECSC as a translator, he subsequently became head of one of the translation departments of the European Parliament. He served as secretary general of the Socialist Group of the European Parliament, and, from January 1990, he was director of the Unit of Human Rights of the European Parliament. He died in 2002.

- Documentation annexed to the fonds includes a substantial collection of monographs about Italian and European socialism, protection of human rights, operation of the European Community. Also included are issues of periodicals and 60 posters. In particular, the material covers a wide range of subjects such as the activity of the Socialist group of the European Parliament and of the socialist parties of Italy, Belgium, and Germany, the Socialist International, Amnesty International, European Convention on Human Rights, the protection of refugees, racism and xenophobia.
