Summary

The book provides a 'back-door' look at the colonial and post-colonial history of France, Vietnam, and Morocco by tracing the lives of Moroccan soldiers who deserted the French army in Indochina and joined the Viet Minh. In 1972, some of these soldiers were able to return to Morocco with their Vietnamese families. However, some wives and children of Moroccan soldiers were left behind to face an uncertain future in post-colonial Vietnam.
