Summary
This volume consists of eight chapters in political philosophy that were presented as papers at the Second Annual Workshop for Oxford Studies in Political Philosophy at the University of Missouri in September 2014. David Estlund discusses threshold (deontic) versus comparative conceptions of justice. Niko Kolodny discusses the permissibility of a state's using force for violations of state directives to deter future violations. Amanda Greene discusses the role of actual and hypothetical consent for state legitimacy. Anna Stilz discusses the role of self-determination for full state legitimacy. Assaf Sharon discusses the republican claim that the rule of law is compatible with individual liberty (and non-domination). Richard Arneson discusses several justifications for political elitism (superior political power for superior political knowledge). Gina Schouten discusses the permissibility of using collective political power to change the gendered division of labor. Daniel Attas analyzes the concept of trust and several ways of promoting it or undermining it.--
